HAVEN is committed to examining our own policies
and practices that have been consciously and unconsciously complicit in white
supremacy. We have inherited a legacy of
racism and we will take concrete and actionable steps to be part of the history
that challenges and dismantles it.
i.
We
know that racism and other forms of oppression are real threats to the safety
of our communities and see its connection to domestic and sexual violence and
stalking.
ii.
We
acknowledge the need to examine who we might be leaving out through our
practices and policies.
iii.
We
are committed to anti-racism, inclusion and diversity. Diverse staff are an asset and broaden
perspectives, bringing better results.
Diversity without anti-racism prioritization can lead to untenable work
environments for People of Color.
iv.
We
see that ableism, homophobia and transphobia are connected to racism and sexual
and domestic violence. Othering and
objectifying people and the process of dehumanization precipitates violence.
v.
Racism
is entangled in the systems we work in, the communities we live in, and the
places we inhabit.
vi.
We
know that good intent is not enough.
Impact must be considered.
vii.
We
are committed to trainings, education and reflection so that we can truly reach
our mission.
viii.
We
are committed to having ongoing discussions within our organization on how we
can work to create safer spaces for our staff and clients we serve.
