Kids Are Our Business Breakfast
(KAOBB)
HAVEN’s annual Kids Are Our Business Breakfast, held on the morning of April 10 at Wentworth Country Club, brought together community members, supporters, and partners committed to preventing violence and giving children a voice. The event raised $35,000 in net revenue, including $15,000 through a Fund‑A‑Need appeal, to support HAVEN’s education, prevention, and support services across the Rockingham and Strafford Counties.
The breakfast welcomed a mix of longtime supporters and first‑time attendees, creating an atmosphere of connection and shared purpose. Brian Frankenfield, Director of Digital Platforms for FedPoint said, “This is one of my favorite events of the year because it reminds me there are incredibly smart, compassionate, and dedicated people working to give children a voice, help break the cycle of violence, and to prevent violence from ever happening in the first place.”
The program highlighted HAVEN’s prevention education work, with a focus on teen dating violence. HAVEN’s Education Team delivered an engaging and informative presentation that resonated with attendees and underscored the importance of early intervention and community‑based prevention efforts.
“Kathy’s welcoming remarks set a thoughtful and reflective tone for the morning,” said Suzanne Scharff, Development and Event Manager at HAVEN. “We heard from many guests who shared that they learned something new and left with a deeper understanding of how HAVEN’s prevention programs are making a real difference for young people.”
A powerful moment of the program came from Maia Ryan, daughter of HAVEN educator Michele Ryan, shared a full‑circle story of impact. Maia reflected on her experience participating in HAVEN programming as a first grader and how that experience influenced her path to becoming a third‑grade teacher today. Her remarks helped lead into a successful Fund‑A‑Need, inspiring attendees to raise their paddles in support of HAVEN’s work.
“The success of this event reflects the strength of our community and its commitment to ensuring children and families have the support they need to live free from violence,” said Jessie Dill Jakobs, HAVEN’s Development Director. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and supported this important morning.”
